Hard to believe we're into Jack's second year already. A friend of Jeff's said that the days go by slowly, but the years go by quickly. How very true!

Jack's first outing as a year-old baby was to get a haircut. We went to Snip-Its, a child-friendly salon chain across Massachusetts. They're wonderful there, and the stylists without clients kept Jack distracted enough so his hairdresser could do an amazing job trimming his hair just a bit. We certainly didn't want his curls to disappear, but it's at least out of his eyes now.
We've also been experiencing unseasonably nice weather, and have been able to
get Jack to the playground and in the backyard (though our "yard" leaves quite a bit to be desired, at least in terms of child-friendliness). While it's back to normal March weather now, it was nice to get a glimpse into what our summer will be like, though Jack will likely be walking on his own then. Jeff has been teaching Jack how to do things a bit more independently. Like using a spoon to feed himself (he's only allowed to do this at dinner, not lunch, because Mama doesn't want to give Jack two baths). He clearly understands the process, but his coordination leaves a bit to be desired. But he's an independent little guy and
is very keen to figure it out. We've also discovered that he loves macaroni and cheese, though they are slippery little buggers.Jack has also been standing independently much more often and for longer periods. He is more comfortable "finger-walking", as they call it in Gymboree - walking while holding our fingers with both hands. I'm sure it won't be long before he feels comfortable enough to take steps independently.
